# Use profiles on multiple computers

Use the same browser profiles on two or more computers: log in with the same account and keep cloud saving on.

To use your profiles on more than one computer, log in to Incogniton with the same account on each computer and keep cloud saving on (**Settings > Preferences > Enable cloud saving**). Run each profile on one computer at a time.

### What you need

* **The same account on every computer.** Install Incogniton on the second computer and log in with the account you already use. Your profiles appear in the profile list there too. Teammates who log in with their own account in your team work with the same profiles in the same way.
* **Cloud saving turned on.** Cloud saving is one switch for your whole account, under **Settings > Preferences > Enable cloud saving**. See [Cloud saving](/account-management/cloud-saving.md) for how to turn it on and choose a server location.

With cloud saving on, a profile's browser data (cookies, logins, history and so on) is stored in the cloud. When you close a profile, Incogniton uploads its data. When you start the profile on another computer, Incogniton downloads the latest copy first, so you continue where you left off.

With cloud saving off, a profile's browser data stays on the computer where you used it. The profile still shows up on your other computers, but without that data.

{% hint style="info" %}
A profile's operating system doesn't need to match the computer it runs on. A profile set up as macOS can run on a Windows computer, and the other way around.
{% endhint %}

### Run a profile on one computer at a time

Close a profile on one computer before you start it on another. If the same profile runs on two computers at once, both sessions save their own version of the data and the cloud copy can end up broken or out of date.

While a profile is running on another computer, its status in the profile list shows **Launched on different device**.

To make sure a profile can never be opened in two places at once, turn on **Active session lock** for that profile. See [Private active session lock](/team-features/private-active-session-lock.md).

### Take over a profile that shows as running on another computer

Sometimes a profile stays marked **Launched on different device** although it is no longer open anywhere, for example because the other computer crashed, lost its internet connection or was shut down while the profile was open.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Check the other computer

If you can, go to the other computer and close the profile there. Its status then changes back to **Ready** on your other computers, and you can start it as usual.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Release the profile

If the other computer isn't available, click the three-dot menu on the profile and choose **Force stop on other devices**. This removes the "running elsewhere" mark from the profile.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Start the profile here

When the status shows **Ready**, click **Start**.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Force stop on other devices** does not close a browser that is still open on the other computer. Only use it when the profile is really closed there. If the profile is still open on the other computer and you start it here as well, the two sessions overwrite each other's data.
{% endhint %}

### The Synchronizer is not for this

The **Synchronizer** has nothing to do with using profiles on several computers. It repeats your actions from one main profile in other profiles at the same time, and it runs on a single computer. To use a profile on another computer, use the same account with cloud saving on, as described above. See [Synchronize profiles](/browser-and-browser-profiles/profiles-synchronizer.md) for what the Synchronizer does.
